CMA CGM is imposing substantial peak season surcharges as ocean carriers respond to surging demand heading into the busy summer months. The world's third-largest container carrier announced a $2,600 increase per 40- and 45-foot container on East Mediterranean to U.S. shipments, effective July 1. The surcharge applies to containers originating in Turkey, Greece, Lebanon, Bulgaria, Egypt, Syria, Georgia, Ukraine, Romania, Croatia, Albania, and Slovenia. A separate West Mediterranean to U.S. East Coast route surcharge of $1,000 per container also takes effect during the peak season. Carriers cited efforts to maintain reliable and efficient service levels amid heightened volume. Ocean shipping demand has accelerated significantly since early May.
