CMA CGM's early commitment to liquefied natural gas bunkering has delivered tangible results amid shipping's decarbonization drive, executives said this week. The French carrier signed its first decade-long LNG supply agreement with TotalEnergies in 2017, commencing deliveries to Rotterdam in 2020 with 300,000 tons annually. The partnership has weathered multiple crises including the Covid-19 pandemic, Ukraine conflict, and Middle East disruptions. CMA CGM and TotalEnergies expanded their cooperation in July 2025 through a new 50:50 joint venture serving the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp region, scaling annual supply to 360,000 tons through 2040. Company officials stressed that future maritime strategy must balance three imperatives: supply security, decarbonization, and competitiveness. The carrier is also engaging Singapore LNG Corp to advance bunkering infrastructure development.
