Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase faces mounting headwinds as market participants anticipate a third consecutive quarterly contraction in trading volumes for the second quarter of 2026. Bitcoin prices fell approximately 12% during the quarter, extending weakness that has plagued the platform since late 2025.
Market speculators assign a 41% probability that trading volume exceeds $160 billion, falling short of analyst consensus estimates of $168 billion. Traders assess just a 25% chance trading volume surpasses $170 billion, though they view volumes above $150 billion as highly probable at 99%.
Speculators are confident that total trading volume will slip below $200 billion for the first time since third quarter 2024. The outlook marks significant deterioration from peaks reached in October 2025. Coinbase shares have declined more than 55% since bitcoin prices peaked then, with bitcoin itself off slightly less than 50% from that level.
The exchange will report second-quarter results on July 30.
