Global teu-mile demand has expanded 6.1% this year, outpacing vessel-supply growth of roughly 5%, according to capacity tracking data. Technology-related shipments and containerised automotive cargo are driving much of the volume increase. Major carriers are deploying additional freighter capacity on transpacific routes to manage peak-season demand. The demand-supply balance suggests shippers will face tighter capacity constraints through the remainder of the year, potentially supporting higher freight rates.
