The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay has executed a $25 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grant agreement, moving forward with environmental review and permitting for its Pacific Coast Intermodal Port project. The initiative will construct a new 175-acre international container terminal on the North Spit peninsula directly west of North Bend. The facility will operate as a rail-first hub, moving nearly all freight directly from vessels to trains rather than relying on truck transport. Ships will access the terminal via a six-mile channel route into Coos Bay Harbor. Infrastructure upgrades will improve the 134-mile Coos Bay Rail Line spanning Coos, Douglas, and Lane counties. These improvements will establish direct cargo transfer to Union Pacific's network near Eugene. Channel deepening and widening will accommodate larger container vessels. The terminal will feature electric ship-to-dock power connections, reducing diesel consumption at berth. NorthPoint Development partners with the port authority on the public-private venture.
