Chinese state-owned Cosco Shipping Holdings posted an 81% profit increase in the third quarter. The container line benefited from elevated freight rates driven by port congestion and extended rerouting that kept vessels deployed longer at sea. However, its subsidiary Cosco Shipping Ports, which operates container terminals, reported flat profit as its busiest Chinese facilities approached capacity constraints. The diverging performance highlights operational pressures facing port infrastructure amid elevated shipping demand. Citi anticipates seasonal demand easing into early 2027, suggesting current rate premiums may moderate as market dynamics shift.
