CSX has become the last major North American freight railroad to roll out commemorative locomotives celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary. The carrier unveiled two CM44AH high-horsepower units—numbered 250 and 2026—painted at its Waycross, Georgia facility. Unit 250 displays a Stars and Stripes design, while Unit 2026 features an American bald eagle and "United We Stand" messaging. CSX President and CEO Steve Angel emphasized the railroad's two-century role in advancing American economic growth, tracing the company's heritage to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, the nation's first common carrier. Both locomotives will participate in a ceremonial run through Washington, D.C., where CSX operates most regional rail infrastructure. The units will subsequently enter regular mainline service across the CSX network. Approximately one in five CSX employees are military veterans.
