Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced new U.S. sanctions as "immoral, illegal, and criminal" Tuesday, as geopolitical tensions surrounding the island nation intensify. The U.S. government sanctioned 11 Cuban officials and the country's main intelligence agency, extending pressure that has included an oil blockade since January. Díaz-Canel specifically criticized a Trump administration executive order threatening third parties with tariffs for selling petroleum to Havana, along with measures targeting companies considering investments or trade with Cuba. The fuel-starved nation faces mounting speculation over potential U.S. military action. Intelligence reports indicate Cuba has acquired more than 300 military drones from Russia and Iran. Discussions are underway regarding their potential use against U.S. military vessels and Key West, situated approximately 90 miles north of the island.
