A $1.7 million shipment of condoms and lubricant bound for a Walmart distribution center in Pennsylvania was diverted through a sophisticated identity theft scheme. The cargo, consisting of approximately 103,000 units of ONE Condoms and Move lubricant manufactured by Global Protection Corp., originated in Lynn, Massachusetts and was targeted by attackers who used a phishing email disguised as a broker agreement. The criminals compromised the carrier's systems and assumed its identity, then leveraged those credentials to arrange transportation. Unsuspecting drivers arrived with correct shipment numbers and paperwork, unaware of the fraud. The cargo was subsequently rerouted to a warehouse in the Bronx. The incident exemplifies a troubling trend: cyber-enabled cargo theft across North America reached nearly $725 million in 2025, a 60% increase from the previous year, according to FBI data. Criminals increasingly target carrier identities and communications systems rather than stealing trailers outright.
