Daimler Truck leadership outlined critical gaps preventing battery-electric and hydrogen trucks from reaching mainstream European fleets. Infrastructure deficits and cost parity challenges emerged as key barriers. The manufacturer holds 38% of Europe's locally CO2-free medium and heavy-duty truck market through the first half of 2026, with the eActros 600 accumulating over 160 million kilometers since late 2024 production launch. Battery-electric trucks captured just 2% of Europe's market in 2025, yet must reach approximately 35% by 2030 to meet EU emissions targets. Europe currently operates fewer than 2,000 public truck charge points but requires 35,000 megawatt charging stations by decade's end. Hydrogen infrastructure remains similarly constrained at around 187 stations, most supplying unsuitable pressure levels. CEO Karin Rådström emphasized CO2-based road tolls as essential market incentives, noting only 13 EU member states implemented such measures, with fewer establishing meaningful diesel-electric pricing gaps.
