Torc Robotics appointed Tobias Wessels as chief financial officer. Wessels brings more than two decades of executive experience to the autonomous trucking subsidiary of Daimler Truck. He will oversee financial strategy as the company scales Level 4 autonomous truck technology toward commercial deployment. He replaces Richard Kannan, who died in December. Wessels previously served as chief development officer at Helm.ai, where he managed finance and international growth including operations in Stuttgart and partnerships with Volkswagen Group. His background also includes roles as chief corporate development officer at autonomous delivery startup Udelv and as CFO at X, Alphabet's experimental ventures unit, where he supported early-stage projects including the precursor to Waymo. Torc CEO Peter Vaughan Schmidt praised Wessels' deep technology experience and cross-Atlantic expertise, positioning him to accelerate the company's commercialization efforts alongside Daimler Truck's backing.
