A coalition of Democratic senators is urging Secretary of State Marco Rubio to cancel a limited-edition passport featuring President Donald Trump's image. They argue the initiative represents inappropriate personal promotion. The State Department unveiled the special commemorative passport in April, timed to mark the nation's 250th anniversary, with renderings showing Trump's likeness superimposed over the Declaration of Independence. Senators contend that no sitting U.S. president's image has previously appeared on a passport, establishing a precedent they view as problematic. The push to feature Trump on the travel document follows a broader pattern in his second term. His name and likeness now appear on the 2026 America the Beautiful National Parks annual pass. Plans also include Trump's signature appearing on dollar bills—the first time a sitting president will leave such an imprint on paper currency in U.S. history—as well as a special 250th anniversary gold coin bearing his image.
