The Department of Homeland Security and Department of Transportation are partnering to investigate fraudulent practices at approximately 75 commercial driver's license training schools nationwide. Homeland Security Investigations will coordinate with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to identify illegal CDL issuance schemes involving non-domiciled licenses granted to undocumented immigrants. The agencies allege suspect schools have issued improper driver certifications, falsified training records, and failed to adequately prepare applicants for commercial vehicle operation. State and local law enforcement will support the investigation. The FMCSA maintains a Training Provider Registry of federally authorized entry-level driver training providers and uses it to remove noncompliant operators. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin emphasized the enforcement effort aims to eliminate CDL fraud and strengthen system integrity to prevent accidents caused by unqualified drivers operating commercial vehicles on U.S. roads.
