The weekly Department of Energy benchmark diesel price rose this week, climbing 9 cents per gallon following a sharp increase in ultra low sulfur diesel futures trading on the CME commodity exchange. The latest pricing remains approximately 25 cents per gallon below the all-time high of $6. This marks the first weekly gain after three consecutive weeks of declines. ULSD futures experienced significant volatility, surging more than 21 cents per gallon on October 13 as traders reassessed the limited supply impact from recent diplomatic initiatives. Tuesday's session brought a subsequent pullback as crude oil prices declined sharply following unconfirmed reports of peace negotiations between Qatar and Pakistan. The market demonstrates heightened sensitivity to even indirect geopolitical developments. Supply flows through critical chokepoints remain stable with insufficient data suggesting material changes to crude exports.
