Walt Disney's "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu" collected $82 million in domestic ticket sales during its opening three days in theaters, marking the lowest theatrical launch for a Star Wars film under Disney's stewardship. The film, based on the streaming series, exceeded initial analyst expectations of $80 million but fell short of 2018's "Solo: A Star Wars Story," which opened to $84 million. The movie drew $63 million internationally. Premium large-format screenings accounted for 41% of ticket sales. Standard tickets averaged $16.01, while premium offerings averaged $19 each. Disney projects the film will surpass $100 million domestically during the four-day Memorial Day weekend. The studio's revenue strategy extends beyond box office returns to include merchandise sales, streaming platform activity, and theme park experiences. Star Wars merchandise generates more than $1 billion annually in retail sales.
