The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $200 million in INFRA grants to 14 truck parking projects spanning 12 states, addressing a critical bottleneck in the nation's freight infrastructure.
The funding arrives as the trucking market faces mounting capacity constraints. Tender rejection rates reached 14% in October, well above seasonal norms, signaling persistent supply shortages across major corridors.
High diesel prices and limited equipment availability continue to pressure rates, with truckload pricing reaching four-year highs and less-than-truckload services climbing 80% above baseline levels. The parking expansion aims to alleviate driver fatigue and improve operational efficiency as shippers increasingly divert freight to rail intermodal services.
Rail traffic has surged as trucking capacity remains tight, with intermodal and carload volumes hitting new records across nearly all industrial sectors.
