DP World is evaluating plans for a new port and container terminal on the UAE's east coast near Fujairah. The goal is to reduce reliance on its existing Jebel Ali facilities. The Dubai-based operator controls four terminals at Jebel Ali with combined annual capacity of 19 million TEUs. Project discussions include both a greenfield port development and expansion at Fujairah's existing harbor, though financing and structure remain under negotiation. Fujairah sits approximately 70 nautical miles south of the Strait of Hormuz along the Gulf of Oman and serves as a regional bunkering hub. The initiative reflects growing interest in alternative routing options outside the Strait amid regional instability. The proposal remains in preliminary stages without final investment approval.
