DP World is pursuing operations at two container terminals in Chittagong as it deepens its footprint in Bangladesh's port sector. The UAE-based operator submitted a proposal last month during a Bangladesh-UAE Public Private Partnership Platform meeting in Dubai seeking long-term leases for both Chittagong Container Terminal and the New Mooring Container Terminal. The terminals operate adjacent to each other at Chittagong Port. DP World's Bangladesh ambitions extend beyond terminal operations. The company is exploring investment opportunities in an inland container depot at Gazipur and the planned Bay Container Terminal in Chittagong. The push represents an escalation of DP World's interest in the country, which dates to 2019 when it proposed a $1 billion infrastructure investment. Bangladesh has increasingly opened its ports and logistics sector to foreign operators. However, proposed handovers to international carriers have faced sustained opposition from port workers and political groups.
