The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed suit against Pharr, Texas-based Trancasa USA Inc. on allegations of systematic age discrimination in driver recruitment. The lawsuit centers on the carrier's refusal to hire a 64-year-old driver with over 20 years of experience and a clean driving record. The carrier claimed insurance requirements barred the applicant. According to the complaint, Trancasa implemented hiring restrictions tied to a 2023 commercial liability insurance policy that capped driver age at 65 and imposed stricter documentation requirements for applicants over 60 or under 25 with any traffic violations. Drivers ages 63-65 faced additional medical examination mandates. Trancasa operates 171 power units with 198 drivers and reported 18.8 million miles in 2025. The EEOC argues carriers cannot use third-party insurance provisions to justify employment discrimination prohibited by the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
