The Environmental Protection Agency released proposed revisions to its nitrogen oxide standards for heavy-duty trucks Thursday. The agency kept the stringent limits established in 2023 intact while modifying other regulatory provisions, and projects manufacturing costs will remain unchanged. The EPA estimates the revised standards will achieve 90% of the originally targeted NoX reductions and cut on-road heavy-duty vehicle emissions by 42% by 2055 compared to a no-rule scenario. The 477-page proposal opens a 45-day public comment period, with publication in the Federal Register expected Friday. The Engine Manufacturers Association cautiously welcomed the announcement, pledging to review details while seeking regulatory clarity and practical implementation support for its members.
