Ethiopian Airlines Cargo Launches Direct Freighter Route From China to Africa

Ethiopian Airlines Cargo has inaugurated a twice-weekly freighter service connecting Chengdu, China with Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The direct air link connects southwestern China and the African continent, launching August 28 with a Boeing 777F aircraft. The aircraft has a 107-tonne payload capacity. The carrier plans to potentially expand operations to four weekly frequencies as demand develops. The service will facilitate distribution of Chinese cargo to major African hubs including Lagos, Accra, Dakar, Entebbe and Lubumbashi across 54 African nations. According to company leadership, the route strengthens supply chain connectivity between China and Africa while supporting regional trade expansion. Ethiopian Airlines operates a freighter fleet comprising 12 777Fs and additional converted narrowbody aircraft, serving 70 dedicated cargo and 140+ passenger destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
