European shippers and forwarders are banking on expanded market access following a revamped free-trade agreement between the EU and Mexico. The accord, building on a 2000 deal, grants duty-free treatment to nearly all goods and is expected to benefit over 45,000 EU companies. The European Shippers' Council emphasized the agreement's value in reducing customs duties and administrative complexities that drive border delays. Both blocs are moving to diversify supply chains amid geopolitical uncertainty and tariff pressures. EU-Mexico bilateral trade topped €86 billion in 2025, with European exports reaching €53 billion against €34 billion in imports. The EU ranks as Mexico's third-largest trading partner after the US and China. Trade between the regions has surged more than 75% over the past decade. Mexico primarily ships machinery, transport equipment, chemicals and metals, while importing EU automotive products and industrial equipment.
