The European Union is seeking to intensify bilateral discussions with the United States on cutting-edge artificial intelligence models equipped with cyber capabilities, according to a Commission official. The push follows widespread alarm over Anthropic's Mythos model, unveiled in April, which sparked concerns among governments and businesses about potential AI-driven cyber threats.

Anthropric plans to expand access to Mythos-class models to customers within weeks. The White House has opposed broader distribution, citing security risks. The company initially deployed the model through Project Glasswing to a limited set of U.S. firms and organizations. The EU and its AI office have not received preview access.

Anthropric had proposed extending access to roughly 70 additional companies and organizations, but U.S. officials blocked the expansion. The Commission said cybersecurity is a shared priority and confirmed mutual recognition of respective standards.
