Container traffic between Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa posted gains in July, though industry participants remain cautious about sustained momentum. SSA-to-Europe volumes increased 2.3% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth. Europe-to-SSA shipments rose 5.7% compared with July 2025, extending a six-month positive streak. One forwarder cited robust volumes and stable rates, suggesting potential capacity constraints ahead. However, peers expressed skepticism, reporting limited incremental activity gains. A South Africa-based logistics provider reported steady rates and service levels but flagged ongoing port challenges as a primary concern. Congestion at Durban Gateway Terminal has reached critical levels, prompting government intervention and creating unpredictable cargo movement conditions across African port facilities.
