Hybrid Chassis Maker Tapped for Army's Unmanned Supply Delivery Program

Harbinger, a builder of electric and hybrid medium-duty chassis, is supplying prototype vehicles to the U.S. Army for autonomous last-mile logistics operations. American Rheinmetall secured an 18-month Army contract on July 31 as prime contractor for Project Sustainment. The project aims to deploy hybrid-powered unmanned ground vehicles for tactical resupply missions, with Harbinger serving as a tier-one supplier developing the platform. The vehicles are based on Class 5/Class 6 truck specifications and operate without cabs, steering wheels, or pedals, functioning as autonomous platforms rather than driverless trucks. The Army's initiative mirrors civilian final-mile delivery networks operated by major logistics providers, removing soldiers from exposed resupply runs. The unmanned platform handles the final leg of the military supply chain, replacing traditional five-ton and deuce-and-a-half trucks currently operated by personnel.
