Expeditors Posts 32% Revenue Gain on Airfreight Surge

Expeditors International reported strong second-quarter results driven by double-digit growth across most service lines, with airfreight volume climbing 14% year-over-year. Monthly gains accelerated through the quarter, rising from 13% in April to 15% in June as demand for air capacity outpaced available space. Ocean freight finished flat overall despite early weakness and a June rebound of 9%. CEO Daniel Wall attributed the performance to the company's operational excellence strategy and elevated airfreight pricing. Constrained belly capacity from reduced passenger flights and strong demand from hyperscalers fueled the air segment. Hyperscalers required upper-deck access for their servers. Ocean volumes rose 7% sequentially from Q1, signaling potential stabilization in the long-declining market. Container-level profitability improved on heightened late-quarter pricing. Customs forwarding benefited from tariff-driven shipper demand.
