German counterterrorism authorities launched an investigation after airport personnel discovered a drone equipped with explosives near the southern runway at Leipzig/Halle Airport overnight. The device was found in a restricted cargo area adjacent to parked Ukrainian freighter aircraft. Police deployed a robot to examine the drone, removed a detonator, and conducted a controlled explosion. Several DHL aircraft scheduled to land at the major logistics hub were diverted as a precaution. Separately, counterterrorism investigators are examining a second incident involving an unidentified object that struck a cargo aircraft believed to be DHL-operated near the same airport. The aircraft sustained only minor damage upon landing at Hanover. Ukraine's ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, stated on German TV: "Who else could it be but Russia."
