Boeing's 777 freighter program is experiencing continued healthy activity following federal regulatory approval. The FAA granted an emissions exemption in September, allowing Boeing to deliver up to 35 additional 777F aircraft through January 2031. This overcomes fuel efficiency compliance deadlines that would have halted production. Six 777F orders arrived in 2026, including two from Ethiopian Airlines in September alongside a separate eight-aircraft widebody purchase. China Airlines and China Southern Cargo each ordered two freighters in June. Through September, Boeing delivered 20 of the aircraft, with FedEx and Air China Cargo each receiving one in September. The manufacturer maintains 38 unfilled orders. Last year's performance included 15 orders and 35 deliveries. The exemption addresses a cargo sector supply shortage while Boeing develops its next-generation 777-8 freighter variant.
