Someone impersonating a freight broker attempted to redirect a $273,000 seafood shipment, but quick police response prevented the cargo theft in North Arlington, New Jersey. A truck driver received fraudulent phone calls and text messages directing him to divert approximately 29,000 pounds of frozen cargo to an unauthorized location on Porete Avenue on October 3. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals transferring pallets of shrimp, salmon, conch meat and branzino into a 26-foot box truck. Jonathan Pollaguari, 18, of the Bronx, and a juvenile were arrested at the scene. Investigators confirmed the diverting party had no legitimate connection to the actual freight broker. Officers secured the merchandise before either suspect could flee, recovering the entire shipment intact.
