The Federal Reserve maintained its benchmark interest rate at its October meeting while signaling continued vigilance against persistent inflation pressures. Two officials dissented from the decision to hold rates flat. Bond markets are now pricing in a greater-than-90% probability that policymakers will raise rates when they convene again in December, reflecting expectations that additional tightening may be necessary to combat stubborn inflation. The decision comes as central banks globally adopt similar postures, with the Bank of Canada raising its rate to 2.5% and indicating further increases may be warranted to address inflation risks.
