Immigration and transportation officials are stationing federal agents at commercial truck weigh stations nationwide. They aim to identify drivers operating with fraudulent or improperly issued commercial licenses. The Department of Homeland Security is collaborating with the Department of Transportation and state law enforcement to catch violators during routine inspections. More than 28,000 non-domiciled commercial driver licenses have been revoked across the country as part of the initiative. DHS officials acknowledged that obtaining driver records from certain states has hindered enforcement efforts, but said the agency is coordinating closely with state partners. The Department of Justice is pursuing legal action against jurisdictions refusing to share driver information. Recent operations in Texas, Arizona and California have resulted in immigration arrests, equipment violations and drivers being removed from service for licensing violations and unsafe conditions.
