U.S. Postal Inspection Service agents seized a website that distributed over 5 million fraudulent USPS postage labels, causing $126 million in losses to the national mail carrier. Faheem Akram, 33, of Khanewal, Pakistan, operated LabelsBank.com, which charged a flat $2 per label regardless of package weight, size or destination. Postal inspectors in Miami identified more than 5,000 customers who purchased approximately 1 million counterfeit labels through the unauthorized platform. A federal judge authorized the domain seizure and shutdown following Akram's indictment on conspiracy, counterfeiting and wire fraud charges. Counterfeit postage schemes have proliferated across social media marketplaces and e-commerce sites, with fraudsters typically offering 20-50 percent discounts off face value. Postal inspectors linked the fake labels to reshipping scams where victims unknowingly process stolen merchandise using counterfeit postage.
