The U.S. Department of Transportation announced a $466 million investment to overhaul Washington Union Station under the Northeast Railroad Partnership Program. The funding will address critical structural repairs, including roof replacement and parking garage rehabilitation. Near-term improvements to the passenger concourse, Amtrak lounge, and ticketing systems are planned. The station will add retail, parking, and office space to increase revenue while preserving its historic character and integrating with surrounding neighborhoods. Infrastructure upgrades will support existing and future rail services while enhancing customer experience. Amtrak President Roger Harris called the investment a significant milestone for the nation's capital transportation hub. Union Station Redevelopment Corporation will lead modernization efforts alongside the DOT, positioning the facility as a world-class transit center for future generations of travelers.
