FedEx's board of directors has formally approved the spinoff of FedEx Freight, creating two independent publicly traded companies. The separation is expected to unlock shareholder value by allowing each entity to operate independently. FedEx Freight, the company's less-than-truckload carrier division, will operate as a standalone business following the transaction. The board confirmed in December 2024 that it had agreed to separate the two entities. While FedEx Freight will launch as an independent company, it brings decades of established market presence and customer relationships to its new status. Both companies will pursue growth opportunities within their respective segments of the transportation industry.
