FedEx launched a standalone life sciences division, positioning itself to serve the pharmaceutical sector's shift toward advanced therapies requiring specialized logistics capabilities. The new unit will handle pharmaceuticals, biologics, medical devices, and clinical trial shipments across healthcare supply chains. Nick Gennari, president of global healthcare and life sciences, will lead the division. FedEx's healthcare operations currently generate approximately $10 billion in annual revenue globally, supported by six Life Sciences Centers, IATA CEIV Pharma Corporate Certification, and the FedEx Surround monitoring platform. The move reflects anticipated growth in personalized medicines, cell and gene therapies, and radioligand treatments—segments requiring fundamentally different logistics approaches than traditional pharmaceutical distribution. Industry observers note that current big pharma processes are inadequate for these emerging product categories.
