FedEx has created a specialized life sciences unit consolidating its healthcare logistics capabilities under a single operational structure to address growing demand for temperature-controlled pharmaceutical, medical device, and biologics transportation.

Chief Commercial Officer Brie Carere highlighted the $80 billion healthcare transportation opportunity during the company's earnings presentation. FedEx generated approximately $10 billion in healthcare revenue over the past 12 months, up from $9 billion previously.

The new unit integrates monitoring and visibility tools across FedEx's parcel and supply chain networks. The carrier operates six global life sciences centers spanning Asia and Europe, managing temperature-controlled corridors between major markets. FedEx operates dedicated air routes, including a Dublin-Indianapolis service connecting key healthcare and biopharma hubs.

Competitors UPS and DHL are similarly investing in healthcare segments, with DHL targeting over $10 billion in healthcare revenue by 2030.
