FedEx Expands Robotic Trailer Loading Tests at Maryland Hub

FedEx is scaling deployment of an automated trailer-loading system developed by Dexterity Inc. at its Hagerstown, Maryland facility following successful validation trials. The expansion allows the carrier to evaluate the technology across higher operational volumes in a demanding logistics environment. Pickle Robot Company separately announced plans to integrate its unloading system with Ambi Robotics's capabilities to automate package movement from trailer to warehouse receiving. The initiatives target worker safety improvements and network efficiency gains. Trailer loading and unloading represents one of the most physically taxing warehouse tasks within FedEx's operations, complicated by varying package dimensions, weights and loading configurations. Successfully deploying automation across thousands of trailers in the FedEx network has proven challenging. The Dexterity system is also undergoing testing at a facility in Tracy, California. Future rollout decisions will depend on safety performance, reliability metrics, operational results and integration with existing hub procedures.
