FedEx has secured a significant modernization contract with the U.S. Army, expanding its footprint in the defense sector. The initiative, launched in August, encompasses overhauls to the Army's domestic non-tactical logistics network, supply chain procedures and 23 government-owned industrial facilities responsible for manufacturing, repairing, overhauling and storing military equipment and munitions. FedEx Dataworks, a division using analytics, artificial intelligence and digital technology, is leading the modernization effort. The company has appointed retired Vice Admiral Dion English as vice president and global lead for defense and government logistics solutions. English brings extensive experience from his Navy career, most recently directing a multibillion-dollar global logistics operation spanning all combatant commands across more than 150 countries. CEO Raj Subramaniam characterized the contract as validation of FedEx's leadership in logistics orchestration. He described it as a complementary market opportunity alongside traditional shipping services. The move aligns with FedEx's strategic focus on premium B2B logistics within specialized sectors including automotive, healthcare, aerospace and data centers.
