FedEx is recovering from significant operational disruptions in Vietnam following a transition to a new ground delivery contractor and implementation of updated technology systems. The logistics company switched from incumbent provider Song Binh to Viettel Post for last-mile delivery services in late April, triggering widespread service delays and warehouse congestion across major cities including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Customers reported stranded shipments and unreachable support lines. Customs documentation mismatches extended storage timelines and disrupted supply chains. One garment importer faced canceled orders after fabric samples remained warehouse-bound for days. FedEx attributed the disruption to complexities inherent in simultaneously deploying new processes, technology and operational teams to align with global standards. The carrier said June volumes showed improvement, though specifics regarding the resolution timeline remain limited. Masamichi Ujiie, FedEx president for North and South Pacific, acknowledged the service impact and pledged urgent focus on restoration.
