Freight forwarder association FIATA has requested postponement of amendments to the IATA Direct Air Waybill framework from July 1 to October 1, 2026. FIATA invoked its formal review rights under Cargo Agency Conference Resolution 801c but said the process cannot be completed by the original implementation deadline. The association stated the IATA-FIATA Consultative Council has not convened with sufficient urgency to formulate recommendations before the changes take effect. FIATA has contacted airlines globally seeking clarification on implementation plans, noting some carriers may not adopt the revised framework on schedule. Director General Stéphane Graber emphasized that the review mechanism exists to protect the rights and liabilities of freight forwarders, shippers and airlines. He called for airlines to provide complete transparency on their contractual framework if implementation proceeds as scheduled.
