Five Killed in Four Freight Train Incidents Across Four States

Five people died and two sustained injuries in four separate freight train collisions spanning Texas, Michigan, North Carolina and Pennsylvania between Thursday and Tuesday.

A vehicle struck by a train Tuesday evening near San Antonio in southwest Bexar County left three occupants with critical injuries. One victim succumbed to injuries while two others are expected to recover.

Earlier Tuesday, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a Norfolk Southern freight train southeast of Ypsilanti, Michigan around 4:41 a.m. on tracks between McKean and Bunton roads in Augusta Township. The collision did not occur at a public crossing.

Two fatal incidents occurred Thursday. In Reidsville, North Carolina, two people died after a Norfolk Southern train struck them while sitting on railroad tracks. Later that night in Erie, Pennsylvania, a 16-year-old was killed near Grahamville and South Lake streets.
