The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is distributing $217 million across four grant programs targeting trucking safety and credentials. The funding supports state and local enforcement projects in high-risk crash corridors, hazardous materials safety, and roadside inspection capabilities. The High Priority Commercial Motor Vehicle Grant Program provides money for safety data improvement and public awareness campaigns. The High Priority Innovative Technology Deployment Grant Program funds technology connecting federal motor carrier systems with state CMV platforms. This includes automated license plate readers at weigh stations and electronic screening systems. The grants aim to accelerate identification of carriers operating on suspended authority and drivers with disqualified CDLs. Career training funding targets military veterans entering the trucking industry. The announcement follows the launch of FMCSA's new Motus registration system.
