The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration expects to resolve user experience issues with its Motus registration system within weeks, according to Jesse Elison, the agency's deputy administrator.

Elison told the National Motor Freight Traffic Association's cybersecurity conference that significant attention is being directed toward timelines for fixing the front-end platform. The system, launched in May, has faced substantial operational challenges since rollout.

"Those following weeks were really really tough, because what we had built wasn't working, and every time we tried to fix it, it worked less," Elison said. The agency has stabilized the system in recent months but acknowledges it remains below acceptable standards.

Back-end improvements will require longer to complete, Elison cautioned. FMCSA administrator Derek Barrs prioritized bringing Motus online to fulfill a decade-long statutory obligation. The agency temporarily suspended biennial registration enforcement to address implementation issues.
