FMCSA Deputy Administrator Jesse Elison told industry stakeholders Tuesday that repairs to the troubled Motus registration system remain ongoing with no firm completion date.
Speaking at the Broker Compliance Symposium in Chattanooga, Elison reiterated previous assurances that resolution would take "weeks and not months," but declined to specify when full functionality would be restored.
Elison acknowledged the system's user experience has been difficult, though he characterized some barriers as intentional — designed to prevent unqualified carriers from registering. "But it is still absolutely more people than just the bad actors we intended it for," Elison said.
He noted conditions have improved significantly since the first four to six weeks of Motus' operations. The FMCSA has waived certain registration requirements to ease the burden on carriers and advised those without immediate needs to avoid the system.
Elison encouraged affected users to contact the agency directly, stating issues would be addressed in real time.
