The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has temporarily suspended biennial update requirements for carriers unable to complete filings since June 1. This signals ongoing difficulties with its Motus registration system.

The portal, which launched fully May 14, has experienced persistent technical problems that prevent some operators from meeting compliance deadlines. FMCSA said affected entities will not face inactivation due to system access issues while recovery and stabilization efforts proceed.

Transportation consultants working with struggling carriers report mixed results. Some operators are progressing through the system despite encountering obstacles, while others face conflicting data across government platforms that is preventing normal operations.

The agency did not prominently publicize the temporary suspension, instead posting the notice on its registration page rather than through formal newsroom channels. FMCSA has committed to releasing additional guidance as technical recovery continues.
