The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued two separate statements addressing widespread problems with its newly launched Motus registration platform, which serves as a centralized portal for trucking industry interactions with agency systems.
The statements diverged notably in tone. One memo acknowledged that Motus difficulties have created challenges for commercial motor vehicle operators and pledged that issue resolution ranks as an absolute priority. The agency said it has concentrated resources on fixing insurance filing and operating authority status problems, with improvements expected soon following system updates.
Meanwhile, FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs characterized Motus as a major agency milestone and vital accountability tool. Barrs noted the platform was designed to prevent fraud by bad actors and scammers. The initiative required transferring more than three decades of data across legacy systems to consolidate millions of motor carrier records into a unified system.
