John Dietrich, who recently departed FedEx as chief financial officer, has been elected to American Airlines' board of directors. Dietrich brings 35 years of experience across logistics and air cargo operations. He spent nearly three years at FedEx leading financial operations during the carrier's major restructuring, which included $4 billion in structural cost reductions and the spinoff of FedEx Freight. He resigned on June 1 following the spinoff. Prior to joining FedEx, Dietrich served as CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings for more than three years before the company's 2023 sale to private investors. He spent 24 years at Atlas in various leadership capacities, including as president and chief operating officer. Dietrich will serve on American's audit and finance committees. American generated $839 million in cargo revenue during 2025, trailing United and Delta in the category.
