Freight forwarders are advising shippers on the Europe-Latin America tradelane to secure space in advance as port congestion and carrier schedule volatility persist on both sides of the route. Container Trades Statistics data showed Latin America-bound European volumes grew 2% year-on-year in July, driven by regional exchange rates, financing costs and industrial investment. Return volumes proved weaker, expanding just 2.4% in the same period following a 15% June increase. A Brazilian forwarder cited ongoing port delays affecting both regions and changing carrier schedules as key constraints. While base rates remain relatively flat, surcharges have increased, pushing up total freight costs. Forwarders recommend shippers book earlier and explore alternative sailings. Shippers should also establish realistic delivery windows, with temperature-sensitive cargo requiring additional planning and contingency measures to ensure reliable handling.
