The Georgia Ports Authority's $1.6 billion Ocean Terminal renovation has crossed the 60% milestone, with a newly finished 2,650-foot berth now operational for large container vessels. The project will increase the terminal's capacity from 200,000 TEUs annually to 1.75 million TEUs, supporting anticipated cargo growth in Savannah. Container yard redevelopment is expected to conclude in mid-fall 2027, with full project completion by end of 2028. The truck gate is fully operational and will eventually feature 12 inbound and six outbound lanes. A $29 million overpass allows departing trucks to access U.S. 17 and Interstate 16 directly, reducing local street traffic. The Ocean Terminal work forms part of GPA's broader $5 billion, 10-year capacity expansion strategy. This strategy includes five additional container berths in Savannah and one roll-on/roll-off berth in Brunswick.
