Geotab has introduced a fleet payment card designed to prevent unauthorized fuel purchases and reduce spending as diesel prices remain elevated nationwide. The Geotab Fleet Card, developed with payment processor AtoB, leverages vehicle telematics data to authorize or decline fuel transactions based on vehicle location and tank capacity. The system prevents purchases when a vehicle is not at the fueling location or lacks sufficient tank space.

The launch reflects broader industry movement toward data-driven fuel controls. WEX deployed SecureFuel in July, while Samsara launched its Fuel Command Center in August, both integrating vehicle data with payment controls.

The national average on-highway diesel price stands at $6, approximately 70% higher than the prior year's $3. Geotab's analysis of 419,000 diesel fill-ups across 660 fleets found price variations reaching 77 cents per gallon in the same town. Small fleets selecting lower-priced stations could save roughly $4,700 annually per truck, based on approximately 200 fill-ups per year.
